Fog was advancing and receding on the harbor, in a tug-of-war manner with no clear winner. The formation looked like it had tentacles, extending between houses on the Neck, creating a unique shooting opportunity. I was waiting for it to lift over the lighthouse- to be able to get a shot that was different from the hundreds of other lighthouse shots I have taken. It never happened, or maybe I just didn’t wait long enough. So settled in looking for a different composition. The masts caught my eye. Against a foggy background, their silhouettes took on a level of abstractness enhanced by their shapes and symmetry with each other. I pictured them standing alone, without the boats around them. And built the scene around that.
